Interview with Dr. Lin Morel: Take Control of Life (Podcast #34)
Apr 19th, 2010 by thelawcollaborative
Lin realized the only way to teach her daughter how to stand up for herself, was to take control of her own life and end her violent relationship. (Podcast #34)

Yes, Domestic abuse against women is a focus, but what about domestic abuse against men. My son is in a divorce, has a woman lawyer and she said he is a victum of domestic abuse. His exwife has been diagnosed with depression and went off her pills when she married my son. There are probably many men out there who suffer domestic abuse and are ashamed to leave or get help. My ex daughter-in-law said she would call the police and claim he was abusing her. Who are the police going to believe. Domestic abuse is across the board and needs to be addressed for both sexes.
Sandy,
Thank you for bringing up this very important point. You have inspired a conversation for one of our next podcasts. Thank you for your insight, and for sharing your story. Our best wishes go out to you and your son during this difficult time.
Statistics are that 20% of DV is directed toward men by women. It is a serious problem. We need to unite in our efforts to combat DV with skill development, information promulgation, and public education directed towards people who are dealing with this difficult issue. Since the death of Nicole Simpson Brown attention has been focused primarily on the female population and Congress enacted VAWA to address the problem. Now the police receive Federal dollars for every man they arrest. They are encouraged by the Federal Statute to arrest men. You are encouraged to address your Congressman in this matter. More work is needed in this area to level the playing field of public attention. Thank you for your interest & your concern.
Good luck in your endeavors.
